Your heart deserves this kind of care. Let's get started. Number one, healthy mindset. We start with cultivating healthy mindset because it's far more than just positive thinking, it's a real shield for your heart. Research shows that optimism can cut your risk of cardiovascular disease by 30 to 50 percent. It encourages healthier habits, dials down inflammation, and according to meta-analysis,

Why Heart Disease Can’t Wait

is linked to about 35%, fewer events, and lower mortality overall. Simple practices like daily gratitude, journaling, or mindfulness can make a big difference, and finding a strong sense of purpose in life really fuels the vibrant, resilient heart you're aiming for.

SPEAKER_00

Number two, stress management. Next up is managing stress. Chronic stress is like fuel on the fire for

Mindset And Stress Reset Risk

SPEAKER_00

heart disease. Chronic stress does several things. It raises cortisol levels, increases inflammation, increases blood pressure, and it impairs your sleep, which further worsens your cardiovascular risk. Ongoing stress boosts your odds of having a heart attack or stroke by 32%. Getting a handle on it lowers inflammation, eases the burden on your cardiovascular system, and in fact, one study found that regular meditation reduced cardiac events by 48% in people with coronary heart disease. So try to carve out even 5 to 10 minutes a day for mindfulness, meditation, deep breathing, yoga, or even a favorite hobby. Those small sessions can drop your systolic blood pressure by somewhere between 4 and 14 millimeters of mercury. They can also boost heart rate variability, which is critical for overall cardiovascular health, and help to reduce anxiety. Don't overlook things like regular massages or prioritizing self-care. They all lighten the load on your heart.

SPEAKER_01

Number three, exercise. Of course, regular exercise is a cornerstone. It's one of the best ways to strengthen your heart, improve blood flow, manage weight, and melt away stress. Even beyond weight loss, physical activity revs up your metabolism and slashes risks across the board from coronary heart disease and stroke to heart failure, atrial fibrillation, and peripheral artery issues. Getting in 150 minutes of moderate activity or 75 minutes of vigorous effort each week, like brisk walking, swimming, or cycling, can lower overall mortality and cardiac events by about a third. Those little exercise snacks throughout the day totally count, and over time, this habit builds real resilience in your cardiovascular system. Before

Mediterranean diet, when it comes to what you eat, the Mediterranean diet stands out as a heart superstar. Load up on vegetables, fruits, extra virgin olive oil, nuts, and fatty fish at least twice a week. Sticking to this pattern can reduce cardiovascular disease risk by about 30%, including heart attacks, strokes, and related deaths, with long-term studies like PREDIMED confirming those lasting benefits. It fights inflammation and improves your lipid profile in delicious, sustainable ways. Start simple, drizzle more olive oil, enjoy fish weekly, and snack on a handful of nuts daily. Your heart will thank you with every bite.

SPEAKER_00

Number five, ideal body

Eat Mediterranean, Reduce Inflammation

SPEAKER_00

weight. Maintaining an ideal body weight is another fundamental piece of the puzzle. Extra pounds put a strain on your heart, raise blood pressure, ramps up inflammation, and it speeds up plaque formation in your arteries. Visceral fat or the fat around your organs is metabolically active and creates inflammatory cytokines, which increase inflammation throughout your body, wreaking havoc everywhere. This is particularly true in arteries where inflammation fuels plaque formation. Even modest drops in weight bring huge payoffs. Keeping your BMI under 22.5 minimizes the inflammation and metabolic issues that drive coronary heart disease, while obesity ties directly to problems like high lipids, diabetes, hypertension, and sleep apnea, all of which are

Weight, Sleep, And Recovery

SPEAKER_00

major cardiovascular disease precursors. Losing just 5 to 10% of your body weight dramatically improves these factors.

SPEAKER_01

Focus on whole foods, smart portions, daily movement, and tracking tools. Consistency beats perfection every time. Aim for seven to nine solid hours of sleep each night because that's when your heart and your entire body repairs and resets.

SPEAKER_00

Too little sleep ramps up the risk for high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, metabolic syndrome, and overall cardiovascular mortality through higher inflammation and blood pressure. Large reviews show a U-shaped curve. Under seven or more than eight to nine hours of sleep raises death risk, while the sweet spot protects against heart disease. The American Heart Association even includes good sleep in their life's essential eight.

SPEAKER_01

With so many of us, short-changing rest, small tweaks like dim lights, no screens before bed, a cool room, and checking for issues like sleep apnea, which can triple cardiac risk. Treat sleep as seriously as exercise. It's non-negotiable for heart health. Also, consider a wearable tracking device for monitoring your sleep, like a smartwatch or an aura ring. And by monitoring your sleep, you can make tweaks that can improve your sleep quality over time. Number seven, love. Then there's the power of love and connection. Strong loving relationships can slash cardiovascular disease risk by about 50%, lowering blood pressure, cutting heart attack odds by over half, and reducing mortality as effectively as quitting smoking. Regular safe sexual activity is tied to nearly 50% lower overall death risk, and it's generally safe even for those with stable heart conditions. Nurture those bonds with an open communication and support. Love truly is one of the greatest medicines for a long, healthy heart.

SPEAKER_00

If you don't have a personal relationship with a significant other, consider getting a pet or a hobby that you're passionate about. Any form of love is healing. Number eight, blood pressure.

Love, Connection, And Heart Safety

SPEAKER_00

Knowing your blood pressure and keeping it in check is crucial as it's a direct measure of how hard your heart is working. High blood pressure greatly increases your risk of heart attack and stroke. Dropping your systolic blood pressure by just 5 millimeters of mercury can cut cardiovascular disease risk by 10% across the board. Trials like the STEP study showed targeting under 130 millimeters of mercury in older people reduces the risk of cardiac events by 26%. Shoot for a blood pressure of 120 over 80 or less, but actually the new guidelines are now 110 over 70. And you can do this by obtaining an at-home blood pressure monitor. You can pick one up relatively inexpensively. There's plenty of great brands out there. The one that I often recommend for patients is Omron.

Natural

supplements can help lower blood pressure. Some of these include magnesium, beetroot powder, garlic, and others. Reducing caffeine and alcohol will lower blood pressure as well. Four additional things that will help with blood pressure control are maintaining ideal weight, dash diet, exercise, and stress relief. If lifestyle isn't enough, medications may be necessary even if for a brief period.

SPEAKER_00

A routine EKG can uncover hidden issues like arrhythmias, heart chamber enlargements, or other things that may signal future trouble. Even in people without symptoms, EKG abnormalities can predict high risks of hospitalization and cardiac events. The newer AI-enhanced EKGs can even give you an estimated heart age that could be linked to your risk for mortality. Pay attention if you've got atrial fibrillation, which can dramatically increase your stroke risk. And there are now portable devices like Cardio Mobile that can give you medical grade EKGs in your own home. These have excellent accuracy and you can forward a copy of your EKG tracing to your physician or print off a copy to keep at home. It's quick, painless, and worth doing annually. If something shows up, a follow-up may be necessary to

include additional testing such as stress tests, echocardiogram, or possibly a cardiac CT. It's important to catch these things early and address them before they become big problems. Number 10, advanced lipid panel. For a deeper look, get an advanced lipid panel that goes beyond the basic cholesterol measurements, things like LDL particle number. It's the small LDL particles that lead to plaque formation in the arteries. The large LDL particles do not. And a standard lipid panel does not measure the size of the LDL particles. For example, if somebody comes in and has an LDL of 130, most physicians will have a knee-jerk reaction and put that patient on a statin. But if you do an advanced lipid panel and find that their LDL particle number is low, meaning that they've got predominantly large particles, that person may not benefit from a statin, but may be exposed to all the side effects with very little if any benefit.

Advanced Lipids And Inflammation

SPEAKER_00

LPlittle A, speaking of which, is a particularly nasty lipid particle that's 90% genetically determined and it leads to aggressive plaque formation in the arteries as well as heart valve calcification. There are inflammatory markers that we look at in an advanced lipid panel to include HSCRP, myeloperoxidase or MPO, and LPPLA2 or the plaque test. These inflammatory markers measure inflammation. The HSCRP is more systemic, looking at inflammation throughout your body. The MPO and the LPPLA2 are more specific, looking at inflammation in the walls of the arteries. I tell people you need two things to form a plaque in an artery. Number one, the wrong kind of cholesterol in your blood, and number two, inflammation in the walls of the artery. So if you're just looking for cholesterol and you don't measure inflammation, you're not covering the whole picture. ApoE is something else that we always look at. ApoE4 carries a very high risk for coronary disease and dementia, whereas APOE2 seems to be protective. Since this is a genetic test, it should be tested once and you don't need to recheck it after that. If you happen to be unlucky and have ApoE4, that puts you at very high risk for early coronary disease and early dementia. You need to take action now to prevent the future problems that may be waiting for you. You need to optimize your diet if your ApoB is high and note that LP little A is mostly genetic. While it's 90% genetically determined, I was actually able to lower mine from 131 down to 71 with some natural treatment options. There are new drugs on the horizon that can dramatically lower LP little A by as much as 98%. Don't forget to target inflammation in your management strategy. Anti-inflammatory diets such as the Mediterranean diet are extremely helpful, but you may also want to consider an NRF2 activator to help lower oxidative stress. I believe everyone should consider getting a coronary CT angiogram with enhanced AI tools like Clearly, Heartflow, Ellucid, or Coristo. These non-invasive scans can spot subtle plaque buildup early with remarkable accuracy. They far outperform calcium scores or stress tests in detecting problems early. The AI analysis quantifies the plaque type, the volume of plaque, and the degree of stenosis or narrowing. This boosts the risk prediction and helps to guide personalized precision medicine. Trials show that this approach cuts events by enabling better earlier interventions. Ideal if you're over 40 with a family history or high cholesterol or other risk factors, it's a quick scan with powerful personalized insights to head off trouble proactively. Number

12, supplements and drugs when required. Finally, supplements and when appropriate medications can fill important gaps, but always personalize them. Omega-3 fatty acids shine for those that have low levels. How do you know if your level is low? You get an omega-3 index test or an omega-quant test that tells you the percent of omega-3 fatty acids in the membranes of your red blood cells. Studies have shown that if you get your percentage above 8%, you have an 80% reduced risk of cardiac events compared to those that have a level of 4% or lower. So it's important to measure that along with your advanced lipid panel. Low vitamin D level is also associated with cardiovascular disease, as is low magnesium level. Magnesium can help with blood pressure as well as sleep. Berberine can help with lipids

and inflammation. CoQ10 can help with heart function and to reduce the side effects from statins if you're taking those. Garlic can help with blood pressure and lipids and plaque regression. There was a study from UCLA that confirmed aged garlic extract could help actually remove plaque from arteries. This is all supported by scientific evidence.

SPEAKER_01
